7 Best Apple Picking Orchards near NYC

My family and I are excited that Fall is here and can’t wait to get out there to enjoy all the fall activities. One of our favorite activities in the Fall is apple picking. Being that we live in NYC we usually head out Upstate to enjoy the orchards. Along with apple picking, I also love to update my family’s oral health routine in the fall to ensure all the fall treats don’t affect our teeth and we are protected from potential cavities. Below I’ve rounded up the 7 best apple picking orchards around the surrounding areas of NYC. Also, see below for a great deal on my favorite toothpaste – Crest – at CVS!

Minard’s Family Farms
Your kids can run wild in the 2.5-acre corn maze! There are giant bounce pillows, pumpkin-painting, kid-sized spider web, barnyard football and other fun fall activities. The orchard is about 100 acres of trees. Swing by the farm stand for freshly-baked goods, homemade jams and snacks such as hot dogs and fries. (minardsfamilyfarms.com)

Outhouse Orchards
About one hour by car from Midtown Manhattan. Also accessible via Metro-North. Outhouse Orchards dates back to the late 1800’s. Its pick-your-own apples season kicks off on September 1 and there are hayrides and a corn maze, too. Take Metro-North to the Croton Falls station and catch a cab to the farm (www.outhouseorchardsny.com)

Apple Ridge Orchards
Munch on over 20 varieties of apples while you’re enjoying a tractor hay ride at this rustic autumn destination. Not only are visitors able to pick their own fruits, but they’ll also have the opportunity to find the perfect pumpkin (starting Sept 15), wander around a corn field, meet cute farm animals and take a look at the honey bee observation hives. Don’t forget to finish your trip to Apple Ridge Orchards with a bite of the irresistible apple cider doughnuts. (appleridgeorchards.com)

Stone Ridge Orchard
There are more than a dozen kinds of organic apples for visitors to pick including classics like McIntosh, Cortland and Stayman. This is a beautiful and very large orchard where you can get lost among the trees and where you can enjoy an incredible vista from the top of the hill near the old oak tree. this is very laid-back place, not very commercial and not crowded. It’s a really great place to bring your kids. The cherry pies at the farm stand are amazing and the sweet cider tastes just like you are drinking apples. They also serve a slightly fizzy sweet cider with sprigs of mint, wonderfully refreshing. (stoneridgeorchard.us)

After visitors find their fruits, they can choose from a lengthy list of activities, including a haunted house corn maze, pedal karts, giant slides a forthcoming obstacle course—the list goes on. Masker Orchards
For a truly epic autumnal experience, head to this 200-acre orchard with over 20,000 fruit trees! Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds before enjoying the fall corn maze and wagon rides, pony rides and visits with adorable barnyard animals. The ice cream is also delicious. (maskers.com).

Share this tip with your kids: Did you know that apples can help clean your teeth. The fibrous content of apples cleans teeth by acting as a toothbrush and scrubbing away plaque from teeth, and removing other food debris. Opposite of the apples, fall treats mainly tend to be very sugary (ie. cider donuts, candy apples etc) so kids and adults need to be sure to protect their teeth from cavities. Sticking to a healthy oral care routine also means brushing that smile after every meal with your most trusted toothpaste and mine is definitely Crest! Check out the great deals below at CVS to find the perfect Crest toothpaste to protect your families teeth this fall.

DEAL ALERT: For the week of September 30th – October 6th, CVS shoppers who spend $30 on Crest Products (Crest Whitening Therapy, Crest 3D White Brilliance Toothpaste, select Crest rinse, Crest Gum Detoxify and more) will receive $10 Extra Bucks. There is also a national $1 off Crest coupon insert that everyone can find in their 9/30 newspapers. Both of these deals can be combined to see big savings at the end of the month.
