4 Reasons You Should Go Watch King Kong On Broadway

King Kong on Broadway

Broadway is one of my favorite places to visit in NYC. It can be difficult to choose a show with there being so many shows to pick from. Today I will share with you why your next Broadway show should BE KING KONG.

1)Stage Design

I loved the creative way they transformed NYC then into the ship that actually travels on the ocean. The entire show is enhanced by video projection that blew me away. King Kong moves around so realistically because of scenic video arrangement that intensifies the shifting scenes.

2)Diverse Cast

Kudos for the casting director! I loved watching the show and looking at all the diverse faces. Christiani Pitts playing the first African American “Ann Darrow” does a remarkable job portraying her fear of the unknown and pulling you in. Also appreciated that Ann was not a stereotypical damsel in distress but a strong and compassionate role.

3)King Kong Himself

The King Kong puppet stands 20 feet tall, weighs 2000 pounds! The puppeteers are artists at their best. How can you control the facial expressions of a 20 foot puppet and give him depth, warmth and heart all at the same time? You felt Kong’s every emotion because the animatronics are brilliant. At times you forget that he isn’t real because his eyes were so captivating. King Kong makes it a Broadway show you have to experience because describing it in words its not enough.

4) Ticket Lottery

King Kong offers a digital lottery which is open for all Monday through Friday performances. A limited number of tickets are available for $49 each and are sold the day of the performance. To enter, visit KingKongLottery.com. An in-person rush is also available at the Broadway Theatre for all performances, including weekends.

ALIVE ON BROADWAY
The epic modern myth comes alive on Broadway through an innovative mix of animatronics, puppetry, music and stagecraft! It’s 1931, the world is in the grip of the Great Depression, and New York City is a place of pressure, of desperation, but also of hope. Enter Ann Darrow, a fearless young actress with a will of steel and dreams that reach as high as the just-completed Empire State Building. After a brutal struggle just to stay on her feet, Ann finds her big break in the form of Carl Denham, a fast-talking filmmaker who promises to make her the star of his next big adventure movie. Throwing caution to the winds, she joins Carl on a voyage to the mysterious Skull Island. There, they encounter a wonder more astonishing than they could have possibly imagined: a 20-foot-tall, 2,000-pound ape known only as Kong.
To her surprise, Ann finds an unexpected kindred spirit in this magnificent, untameable creature. But when Carl hatches a plan to capture Kong and display him to the New York masses, she’s faced with a terrible choice. Will Ann follow the call of her own ambition? Or can she find the strength to stand up for what’s right? Roaring with heart-pounding action, KING KONG is a gripping and spectacular story of unlikely friendship, unshakable courage, and breaking free from the cages others put us in.
Directed and choreographed by Olivier winner Drew McOnie, KING KONG features an electrifying new score by Marius de Vries (La La Land) and Eddie Perfect (Beetlejuice The Musical), and a book by Jack Thorne, the Tony® and Olivier Award-winning writer of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Don’t miss this exhilarating, emotional encounter with a legend that’s always been too big to contain.
